Testimonials

I received both the Masters (2021/2022) and undergraduate (2015/2020) scholarship programs from Finlays Community Trust. My Master of Science in Advanced Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom exposed me to different cultures and allowed me to expand my personal and professional networks, both of which have been critical to my career advancement. As I begin my professional career as an electrical engineer in the United Kingdom, I am grateful to Finlays Community Trust for literally giving me wings to fly.

Emmanuel Kiplangat Koech

Electrical Engineer

Being a recipient of the most prestigious and coveted Finlays Community Trust scholarship brought me good fortune. The scholarship allowed me to complete my Bachelor of Science degree at Moi University. When other students were struggling with tuition and living expenses, I had the luxury of being present for all lecturers and living a wonderful, comfortable, and smooth campus life. I currently work in the Human Resources Department at Finlays. I will be eternally grateful to FCT for giving me wings to fly in my work, family, and as a person. #Long live Finlays #Long live Finlays Charitable Trust #I love FCT #Thank you FCT.

Edna Chepkwony

Strategic Management Specialist

My outstanding performance in KCSE exams earned me a full Finlays Community Trust scholarship to study BSc Mechatronic Engineering at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology. Upon graduation in 2014, I received yet another Finlays Swire scholarship to study MSc Embedded Systems and Control Engineering at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. After successfully completing my studies in 2017, I was hired at Finlays Tea Extracts Saosa as a Controls and Automation Technician. I am grateful to Finlays for the two scholarships opportunities which have had a huge positive impact not only on my life, but also on the lives of my family, friends and community members.

I studied at JKUAT under a James Finlay scholarship. They had promised me that if I do very well, they would sponsor my master’s. I was pretty much settled because I knew where I’d get my master’s funding.

Dr. Gladys Chepkirui Ngetich

PhD in Aerospace Engineering

……As I continued saving for university fees, I met an old man who had taken shelter from the rain at my father’s kiosk. I served him tea and as we interacted, he inquired about my education. I told him my story and the man helped me get a scholarship from James Finlay, a tea factory. With the scholarship, I joined the University of Nairobi’s School of Medicine in 2005 and graduated in 2010.

Dr. Asha Chepkorir Rono

A Medical Doctor in the US

After posting excellent results in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, I was awarded a scholarship by Finlays and proceeded to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Nairobi. I graduated in 2015. I am currently a General Practitioner at The Nairobi Hospital and I am looking to pursue a master’s degree in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Nicholas Moguche

Medical Doctor

I feel like I owe my entire life to Finlays. Finlays fully sponsored my undergraduate degree in Analytical Chemistry at Kenyatta University where I posted excellent results, I was then awarded a Swire scholarship (administered by Finlays Community Trust) for my master’s degree in Food Science at University of Leeds (UK). Upon completion of my Masters, I was recruited by Finlays in 2015, and posted as Estate Assistant to the same estate where my dad used to worked – an incredible coincidence! I worked my way up to the position of Assistant Manager in the same company before leaving to join my current employer, where I am now a full Manager. The Masters scholarship has accelerated my career growth and development in ways I never expected.
