Finlays Community Trust Commissions KSh 6.47 Million Library at Moi Sorget Secondary School in Kericho County

Finlays Community Trust has commissioned a modern KSh 6.47 million library at Moi Sorget Secondary School in Tendeno/Sorget Ward, Kipkelion East Sub-County, Kericho County. The new learning facility will strengthen access to educational resources, support academic growth and provide students with a dedicated environment for reading, research and independent study.

The library is designed to accommodate more than 180 students. It will immediately serve the school’s current enrolment of 89 learners while creating capacity for future growth.

Located in Kericho County, the facility provides a quiet and structured space for individual learning, group discussions, academic research and enrichment activities. It is expected to help nurture a stronger reading culture, improve access to learning materials and equip learners with skills that support lifelong learning.

Strengthening Education Infrastructure in Kericho County

The Moi Sorget Secondary School library responds to an important infrastructure need and reflects Finlays Community Trust’s commitment to improving access to quality education in Kericho and Bomet counties.

The project brings the total number of libraries delivered by the Trust to 14. Finlays Community Trust has now completed 81 community infrastructure projects valued at approximately KSh 350 million, with the majority of investments focused on education.

Its education infrastructure portfolio includes a fully equipped two-stream secondary school, 14 classroom blocks, 20 science laboratories, 14 libraries, five dormitories and 10 institutional facilities, including dining halls, multi-purpose halls and learning resource centres.

Across all 55 wards in Kericho and Bomet counties, these investments benefit more than 17,000 learners every day. By addressing infrastructure gaps, Finlays Community Trust is helping create more dignified, supportive and enabling learning environments for young people.

Investing in Learners and the Future of Local Communities

Speaking during the commissioning, Ambassador Joshua Terer, Vice Chairperson of Finlays Community Trust, said the library would improve learning outcomes by giving students greater access to knowledge and a space that encourages reading, research and critical thinking.

“A library is a powerful investment in the future of a child and the future of a community. It provides learners with a place to discover knowledge, develop confidence and build the skills they need to succeed. We are pleased that this facility will support the students of Moi Sorget Secondary School and contribute to the school’s long-term academic growth.”

Mr Sammy Kirui, HSC, General Manager in Charge of Corporate Affairs at Browns Plantations Kenya Limited and Secretary of Finlays Community Trust, said the investment demonstrates the Trust’s continued focus on education as a foundation for sustainable community development.

“At Browns Plantations Kenya, we believe that every learner deserves access to a safe and supportive environment in which to study, explore ideas and realise their potential. This library is an investment in the students of Moi Sorget Secondary School and in the school’s future growth. By creating a better space for reading, research and independent learning, we are helping young people build the knowledge and confidence they need to shape their futures.”

Supporting Education Beyond School Infrastructure

In addition to education infrastructure, Finlays Community Trust supports human capital development through secondary school, Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and undergraduate university scholarship programmes funded by Browns Plantations Kenya Limited.

More than 1,200 students have benefited from these scholarship programmes, enabling learners from local communities to pursue education and build academic and professional pathways.

The commissioning of the Moi Sorget Secondary School library reinforces Finlays Community Trust’s long-term commitment to sustainable community development. Through strategic investments in education, healthcare, water access and community infrastructure, the Trust continues to contribute to stronger and more resilient communities across Kericho and Bomet counties.
