Swire Masters Scholarship Program Benefits Two Students from Bomet and Kericho Counties

The Finlays Community Trust is pleased to announce the 2024 Swire Masters Scholarship recipients; one from Sigowet Ward, Sigowet/Soin Constituency, Kericho County, and the other from Chemagel Ward, Sotik Constituency, Bomet County.

The one from Sigowet Ward will study Climate Change and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University of Reading, while the other from Chemagel Ward will study Finance and Accounting at the University of West London. The scholarship covers full tuition fees, return air ticket and a stipend to cover accommodation and basic living costs for the term of the course.

Launched in 2012, the scholarship was inspired by the need to provide beneficiaries with unique technical and soft skills, allowing them to compete in both the local and global labour markets. By exposing the students to different cultures, they can expand their personal and professional networks which are key to the development of their communities.

The scholarship is awarded annually to two students: one from Kericho County and another from Bomet County. Beneficiaries are selected through a highly competitive process to pursue a master’s degree at a university of their choosing in the United Kingdom. The scholarship has now benefited 25 students from the two counties and has cost about Kshs 116 million since its inception in 2012. The scholarship is funded by Swire Charitable Trust and administered by Finlays Community Trust.
