The Finlays Community Trust Invests Kshs 20 million to Support Education in Kericho and Bomet Counties
Kericho, Friday, 26th November 2021. The Finlays Community Trust has over the past two months commissioned six infrastructure projects at five secondary schools in Bomet and Kericho Counties at a total cost of over Ksh 20 million shillings. The projects include two classrooms at Motero Secondary School, laboratories at Sondu Secondary School, Masindoni Secondary School and Sosiot Girls’ Secondary School as well as a library at Kamureito Secondary School.
Speaking during the commissioning of the projects, the Finlays Community Trust Chairman Rt. Rev. Col (Rtd) Alfred K. Rotich said, “We are keen to work with the community and support the government in its work to improve education in Kenya. The Trust has focused on availing resources to students in order to provide access to learning materials. We, as a Trust, understand the importance of investing in our children’s education both through infrastructure and facilitation of scholarships.”
The infrastructure projects are part of the Trust’s long-term commitment to partner with local communities and nurture sustainable growth in Kericho and Bomet counties. Additionally, the projects are in line with the government’s Infrastructure Expansion Program that seeks to construct 11,600 classrooms in 7,074 public secondary schools to prepare for transition of the pioneer Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) learners to Junior Secondary School in 2023.
Sammy Kirui, the head of the Community Trust Secretariat added, “It gives us great pleasure and pride to see that our future generations are secured through education. Education is a key pillar in our focus areas as the Trust and we are committed to continue supporting and working with the local community to identify areas that may require our support.”
Since 2010, the Trust has invested over Ksh 220 million on infrastructure to support development and improve the lives of communities in Kericho and Bomet Counties. Some of the notable projects include: the construction of Chemasingi Secondary school at the cost of Kshs 101million, 18 laboratories, 12 classrooms, 11 libraries, 3 dining halls among others in the two counties
In addition to the infrastructure projects, the Community Trust recently awarded secondary school, undergraduate and graduate scholarships to bright and needy students from Bomet and Kericho counties at a cost of Ksh37,850,432.80 million for the entire duration of the scholarships.
