Application for the Finlays Community Trust inaugural TVET Scholarship Programme – Kericho County

The Finlays Community Trust, a charitable trust funded by Browns Plantations Kenya and Finlays Tea Extracts Kenya, is delighted to announce the opening of applications for its inaugural TVET Scholarship Programme. The scholarship targets suitable candidates from Bomet and Kericho counties and will be offered in collaboration with two TVET institutions: Belgut Technical Training Institute in Belgut Constituency, Kericho County, and Konoin Technical Training Institute in Konoin Constituency, Bomet County. The TVET scholarship complements the Trust’s existing three scholarship programmes: secondary school, undergraduate, and masters.

The scholarship programme was inspired by the need to provide for students who want to pursue TVET education but are unable to do so owing to financial limitations. Its goal is to equip recipients with distinctive technical and soft skills that will enable them to compete in local labour market. By exposing students to various technical and vocational training skills, they can broaden their personal and professional networks, which are critical to their career development. Each year, forty students will be admitted to the programme through a highly competitive application process. At Finlays Community Trust, we believe that investing in our children’s education today has a better return on investment for the community and society as a whole in future.

The current call for application is for the BELGUT TECHNICAL TRAINING INSTITUTE (the call for applications to the Konoin Technical Training Institute will be made soon). This scholarship is open to residents of Kericho county interested in undertaking any of the level 5 (certificate) courses listed below at Belgut Technical Training Institute.

  1. Automative Engineering
  2. Building & Construction
  3. Electrical Installation
  4. Plumbing Technology

The scholarship programme targets students who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and attained a mean grade of D and D+.
