Finlays Community Trust is thrilled to announce the 2023 Swire Masters Scholarship awardees. The lucky recipients are Victor Kiprotich Koech of Kipkelion East, Kericho County, and Diana Cherono of Konoin, Bomet County. Diana will attend the University of Westminster to pursue a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology, while Victor will attend the University of Portsmouth to pursue a Master of Science in Cyber Security and Forensic Information Technology. The scholarship will cost approximately Kshs 12.6 million. It includes tuition fees, a return air ticket and a stipend to cover accommodation and basic living costs for the term of the course.
Launched in 2012, The scholarship was inspired by the need to provide beneficiaries with unique technical and soft skills, allowing them to compete in both the local and global labour markets. By exposing the students to different cultures, they are able to expand their personal and professional networks which are critical to the development of their communities.
The Masters Scholarship is given annually to two students, one from Kericho County and one from Bomet County, where James Finlay Kenya operates. The students are chosen through a highly competitive process to pursue a master’s degree at a university of their choice in the United Kingdom. The scholarship has now benefited 23 students and has cost more than Kshs 104.2 million since its inception in 2012.
