Kericho County, Kenya – July 3, 2026: Finlays Community Trust has commissioned a modern KSh 6.47 million library at Moi Sorget Secondary School in Tendeno/Sorget Ward, Kipkelion East Sub-County, Kericho County.

Designed to accommodate more than 180 students, the new facility will immediately serve the school’s 89 enrolled learners while supporting future enrolment growth and expanded learning needs. The library provides a dedicated space for reading, research, independent study, group learning and academic enrichment.

The investment responds to a critical infrastructure need at the school and is expected to strengthen the learning environment by improving access to educational materials and providing learners with a quiet, structured space for study. It will also help nurture a stronger reading culture, support academic performance and equip students with skills essential for lifelong learning.

The Moi Sorget Secondary School library brings the number of libraries delivered by Finlays Community Trust to 14. Funded by Browns Plantations Kenya Limited and Finlays, the Trust has delivered 81 community infrastructure projects valued at approximately KSh 350 million, with most investments focused on education.

The Trust’s education infrastructure portfolio includes a fully equipped two-stream secondary school, 14 classroom blocks, 20 science laboratories, 14 libraries, five dormitories and 10 institutional facilities, including dining halls, multi-purpose halls and learning resource centres. Other investments have supported health facilities, water access, roads, security infrastructure and wider community development initiatives.

Available across all 55 wards in Kericho and Bomet counties, these projects collectively benefit more than 17,000 learners daily. By addressing critical infrastructure gaps, Finlays Community Trust continues to support improved access to quality education and create more dignified, enabling learning environments for young people.

Speaking during the commissioning, Ambassador Joshua Terer, Vice Chairperson of Finlays Community Trust, said the facility would contribute to improved learning outcomes by expanding access to knowledge and creating an environment that encourages learners to read, research and think critically.

“A library is a powerful investment in the future of a child and the future of a community. It provides learners with a place to discover knowledge, develop confidence and build the skills they need to succeed. We are pleased that this facility will support the students of Moi Sorget Secondary School and contribute to the school’s long-term academic growth.”

More than 1,200 students have benefited from these programmes, enabling learners from local communities to access education and pursue their academic and professional aspirations.

The commissioning of the Moi Sorget Secondary School library reinforces Finlays Community Trust’s long-term commitment to sustainable community development.
