- KSh 7.44 million dormitory brings relief to learners facing years of inadequate boarding facilities in Bomet East
Students at Kimuchul Secondary School in Chemaner Ward, Bomet East Sub-County, have a reason to celebrate following the commissioning of a new 80-bed dormitory by the Finlays Community Trust, built at a cost of KSh 7.44 million. The facility addresses years of inadequate and congested boarding space, providing learners with a safe and dignified environment to rest and study.
The modern dormitory features 20 well-designed cubes, each accommodating two double-decker beds, with space for reading stations and wardrobes, supporting both academic focus and personal well-being.
Investing in Education, Empowering Communities
The commissioning ceremony was graced by Linet Chepkorir, who praised the project as a major step in improving student welfare and learning outcomes:
“I am honoured to preside over the commissioning of this dormitory at Kimuchul Secondary School. This investment by Browns Plantations Kenya marks a significant step forward in improving students’ welfare and learning environment and clearly demonstrates what strong partnerships can achieve for our community’s future. I commend Browns Plantations Kenya for partnering with us to close critical infrastructure gaps and create a more enabling environment for our children to succeed,” she said.
For years, Kimuchul Secondary School has struggled with limited and substandard boarding facilities, affecting student comfort, safety, and concentration. The new dormitory directly addresses these challenges, providing a conducive environment for rest, study, and overall learning.
This project follows closely after Browns Plantations Kenya’s commissioning of a 720-seat dining hall at Toror Girls Secondary School in Kericho, benefiting over 278 students—highlighting accelerated investment in education infrastructure across the South Rift region.
Part of a Broader Community Development Programme
The Kimuchul dormitory forms part of the Finlays Community Trust’s 81 major community development projects, which span education, health, water, and infrastructure. These include:
- 18 classrooms and 20 science laboratories
- 14 libraries and 5 dormitories
- 10 institutional facilities, including dining halls and resource centres
- Investments in health facilities, water projects, roads, and security infrastructure
Speaking during the event, Mr. Sammy Kirui, General Manager, Corporate Affairs at Browns Plantations Kenya and Secretary to the Finlays Community Trust, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to long-term community development:
“We believe that every child deserves a safe and supportive environment to learn and thrive. Investments like this dormitory are part of our commitment to empowering communities through education and creating lasting impact where it matters most.”
By addressing critical infrastructure gaps, the Finlays Community Trust continues to strengthen access to quality education, student dignity, and future opportunities for generations in Bomet and beyond.
