720-Seat Hall Commissioned at Toror Girls Secondary School as Community Education Investment Expands in Kericho and Bomet

Kericho County,13 March 2026: A new 720-seat multi-purpose hall and kitchen has been commissioned at Toror Girls Secondary School in Ainamoi Sub-County, part of a Sh362 million community investment that has delivered 81 development projects across Kericho and Bomet counties.

Constructed at a cost of KSh 12,911,971.60, the facility will serve the school’s 278 students, providing a modern space for dining, assemblies, examinations, and co-curricular activities, while also offering a venue that community members can use for meetings and social events.

The project was implemented by the Finlays Community Trust, an independent charitable trust funded by Browns Plantations Kenya and Finlays Extracts Kenya Limited, which supports sustainable development initiatives in Kericho and Bomet counties.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Alfred Rotich, Chairman of the Finlays Community Trust, said the project reflects the Trust’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure and student welfare.

“Schools perform best when students learn in safe, well-equipped environments. Facilities like this hall and kitchen ensure students have dignified spaces for meals and school activities while also strengthening the connection between schools and the communities they serve.”

Education stakeholders note that modern school infrastructure is directly linked to improved student attendance, better nutrition, and stronger academic performance, making investments in facilities such as dining halls and kitchens critical to improving learning outcomes.

Part of a Wider Investment in Schools and Communities

The Toror Girls Secondary School project forms part of a wider programme that has delivered 81 major infrastructure projects worth KSh 362,535,990.87 across Kericho County and Bomet County.

These projects include the construction of a fully equipped two-streamed secondary school at a cost of KSh 110 million, 20 laboratories, 14 classroom blocks, 15 libraries and resource centres, eight multi-purpose halls, dining halls and kitchens, five dormitory blocks, two workshops, two administration blocks and stadium pavilions, technical support and water infrastructure projects, health centres including maternity and inpatient wards, and several other community infrastructure facilities.

Speaking during the event, Dushanth Ratwatte, CEO of Browns Plantations Kenya and Patron of the Finlays Community Trust, said the Trust remains committed to long-term investments that strengthen both education and community development.

“Our commitment goes beyond building facilities. Through the Finlays Community Trust, we are investing in opportunities that empower young people, strengthen communities, and create sustainable impact. When students have access to quality infrastructure, they are better positioned to succeed and contribute meaningfully to the future of our region.”

Community leaders welcomed the commissioning of the new facility, noting that schools increasingly serve as important centres for social interaction, learning, and community development.

With a seating capacity of 720 people, the Toror Girls hall will also help address the shortage of large meeting spaces within Ainamoi Sub-County, enabling community groups and local institutions to hold events closer to home.

The commissioning highlights the ongoing efforts by the Finlays Community Trust to empower communities and create sustainable impact through investments in education, infrastructure, health, and disaster response initiatives.
