Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Amb. Jushua Terer, Vice Chairperson of the Finlays Community Trust, emphasized the significance of modern school infrastructure:

“Schools perform best when students learn in safe, well-equipped environments. Facilities like this hall and kitchen provide dignified spaces for meals and school activities while creating opportunities for the surrounding community to engage, learn, and gather.”

Modern Facilities Boost Student Welfare and Academic Performance

Education experts note that investments in school infrastructure, including dining halls and multi-purpose facilities, are closely linked to improved student attendance, better nutrition, and higher academic performance. These facilities are critical in enhancing learning outcomes and fostering a positive school environment.

Part of a Wider Community Development Programme

The Toror Girls Secondary School hall is part of a larger programme by the Finlays Community Trust that has delivered 81 major infrastructure projects across Kericho and Bomet counties.

Key achievements of the programme include:

  • Fully equipped two-stream secondary schools
  • 20 science laboratories, 14 classroom blocks, and 15 libraries and resource centres
  • Eight multi-purpose halls, dining halls, and kitchens
  • Five dormitory blocks, two workshops, and two administration blocks
  • Stadium pavilions, water infrastructure projects, and health centres, including maternity and inpatient wards

Speaking at the event, Dushanth Ratwatte, CEO of Browns Plantations Kenya and Patron of the Finlays Community Trust, highlighted the initiative’s long-term vision:

“Our commitment goes beyond building facilities. Through the Finlays Community Trust, we are investing in opportunities that empower young people, strengthen communities, and create sustainable impact. Access to quality infrastructure positions students to succeed and contributes to the development of our region.”

Empowering Students and Local Communities Beyond the Classroom

Community leaders welcomed the commissioning of the hall, highlighting that schools are key centres for learning, social interaction, and community development.

With a seating capacity of 720 people, the hall also addresses the shortage of large meeting spaces in Ainamoi Sub-County, enabling local organizations, community groups, and institutions to host events conveniently.

Sustainable Impact Through Education, Health, and Infrastructure Initiatives

The commissioning of this facility underscores the Finlays Community Trust’s commitment to sustainable community development, supporting initiatives in education, health, infrastructure, and disaster response across Kericho and Bomet counties.
